My brother and I have some of the funniest text conversations I have ever had, and most likely ever will have, with anyone and, for this reason, I am wanting to note one of these conversations mainly for my own nostalgia but, if you manage to get a chuckle out of my brother and I...that is a good thing too.
I get random, bizzare messages from him and they usually snowball between the two of us. Here is the most recent example; I would also like to point out that this particular scenerio began at 8:01 am: (S represents him and M will represent me)
S: NOOOOOOORM
M: Cliff? Cliff Claven is that you??
S: Ouch
M Maybe it's Sam...I can't see from here
S: Diane
M: Shudder
M: Carla?
S: Random space filler sitting at back table pretending to talk
M: Some creep hitting on Carla and ending up face down on bar, witty banter...laugh track resounds...
S: Random legs walking past the upstairs window
M: Cliff deciding he knows who it is and telling everyone the history of how shoes were invented
S: Sam trying to get blond to go home with him getting shut down so resorts to trying for Diane
M: Diane, feeling like sloppy seconds, runs out of bar crying hysterically about not being appreciated...blah blah....camera pans left....Carla is seeing grinning like cheshire cat...end scene
S: Credits roll
M: Everyone goes to bed because it is a school night
S: with a flashlight to read comic
M: with head completely under blankets so parents don't see light...
S: yet they knoew and you get a crappy school lunch in the morning as punishment
M: Klik with cod liver oil pills and a prune juice juicebox
S: If you squeeze them {the cod liver oil capsules...note added by me for clarification} over the fridge you don't taste it {this is what we used to do because our dad got us to have cod liver oil capsules daily}
M: So I have heard...just don't give dad a reason to look up and find evidence
S: Then stop beating up your brother
M: It was the one who shall remain unnamed...it wasn't me...enter Shaggy to sing his song
S: Could have beat me on the counter. Wasn't me. Chipped my tooth on the fridge...wasn't me
M: LOL...you are funny
Look at the other sister...it wasn't me...I'd have never hit ya...it wasn't me...
This is just a sample of our dialogue from that day...this part began at 8:01 am and ended at 9:13 am...it continued until 3:02 pm and just got more random and more bizzare. BigDaddy thinks we are strange but...I am so glad I have a brother I can be silly with still even at the ages of thirthysomethingnolongerchildren years old....
is my family...join me on my adventure through mountains and valleys on this mothering journey as we seek to live a life well spent.

Today's fond memory
brought to you in part by Scrabble and Pictionary...
My husband despises board games...loathes them even and so, it is an extremely rare event that we happen to play one as a family - very rare indeed.
As a child, I played Scrabble with my granny as often as I could. She would pull out her worn and well utilized Scrabble board, a worn down pencil (usually sharpened with a paring knife), a piece of looseleaf, neatly folded and a dictionary for challenges and we would play and laugh and snack. We both won. Granny with points and me, well, I won because I loved the time I was able to have spent with her, looking into her sparkling blue eyes full of love and mercy.
Fast forward several years to a life of children of my own and I think to some of the rare moments P.B., Jay and I convinced B.D. to play a rousing game of Pictionary with us. The giggles, the tears from laughing so incredibly hard at our drawng or lack thereof and our guessing and lack thereof...
Simple acts. Great memories with my kiddos...
(This post is not endorsed by Scrabble nor Pictionary as they don't know me from Adam; these are simply the games my memories are associated with. That is all. GRIN)

The ladder, the bannock and the doorknob
Now I know you are dying to find out what those three things have in common on a day like today and in the same story no less so I will quit with the lollygagging and get on with it.
Today is my birthday. I know! I don't look a day over ssshmooshhmmmmttthirtymmumbleseven...fantastic! Because I am NOT a day over...well, that number. No I kid. I have no shame in my age. I have worked darn hard to get that number! :D
I tell you that to set the theme because Jellybean was in her room doing a few things and preparing for my birthday celebration that she had planned. Yep, just me and my two littlest kiddos today.
The door to Jellybean's room has, apparently, been sticking. This I did not know until AFTER today's kerfuffle. So, somehow, don't ask me how; her door got jammed shut, absolutely bonifiedly stuck! As in LOCKED. IN. HER. ROOM. For over an hour my baby was stuck in her room while her babysitter and brother, downstairs, thought everything was cool.
She couldn't get their attention so she opened her window and finally got the attention of someone. Bug ran over to the neighbors to get a mom, who called some of our guy friends, two of them, to get Jellybean out. In the mean time, she was a smidge hungry because what else do you do in times of being stuck but have the desire to eat bannock? {mmmm bannock} She was talking to a friend out the window who decided Jellybean needed bannock and through the, at the moment, screenless window, she threw some bannock up to Jellybean. {I couldn't have made up this story if I had tried, people!}
The two men could NOT get Jellybean's door open so one went to get a ladder, climbed up and into Jellybean's room and blammo, she is now free and has no doorknob on her door. But, she is able to go in and out of her bedroom at will. :D
Jellybean's biggest fear? That she would have to climb down the ladder.
The text I got from the babysitter? "I just want to let you know that Jellybean was in her room and door was stuck. Now she is safe." This made no sense to me at work. In fact, I just sort of shrugged it off until I got home and managed to get the full story. This is a definite Wedding Story, probably Grad story, first date story, fourteenth date story, tell-her-children story...interweb story...
Things I have learned today. You really can get locked in your room even if your door doesn't have a lock and Jellybean is afraid of ladders. Oh, AND the flower called Birds of Paradise is absolutely gorgeous! (I received a lovely bouquet from my friends at work today)
Seriously, People! No way I could make this up {grin}

And cue scene
from the Wizard of Oz; you know, the one where the witch is "melting".
Why?
Because I got off work today, I was greeted with the gloriousness of zero degrees and the snow melting at phenomenal speeds. There are puddles EVERYWHERE and I am fighting back the most intense urges to throw dignity and class to the wayside and start splashing in the puddles RIGHT NOW!
So, my first day off this week is Wednesday and I will be off to get us (well, me and the kids) some rubber boots to kick Spring into gear with a fabulous puddle splashing party! B.D. probably will not be joining in on the spectacular festivities - not really his cup of tea.
I know there will still be a bit more "winter" but this is the beginning of its end. Take a big whiff of that! You know what that is? That's the smell of digging in the earth to find earth worms, of freshly mowed grass and steaks on the grill!
Woo stinkin' who!!!!

The Middle
is not a place I like being unless it's in the middle of a good day with my friends and family... maybe even the middle of a good piece of cake. MMM cake! {grin}
Anyway, it seems like I am in the middle of a lot of things today. I am in the middle of a job decision - pretty sure I made the final decision today however, in the middle of a pantry/freezer clean out month, in the middle of a few projects... (one of those projects is HUGE, like making our family tree HUGE for an upcoming family reunion - YAY!)
I find no dismay about being in the middle. I, simply, would much rather be at the end. I am a finisher, a list-crosser-offer. {Don't even begin to tell me that that is not a real word because it so totally has to be! grin}
I have decided to make an executive decision. You know because I am the executive of... of... I am an executive decision maker of my househould (not the)... no more projects will be started by me until I get at least two crossed off my current list.
I better get going here though. I am, after all, in the middle of making supper. {ha ha!}

There is a full out attack on my nasal passage
I am not taking this lightly! Oh no! I brought out my Mr. Clean Febreeze Meadow and Rain scent. {sidenote: how does Mr Clean Febreeze capture that meadow/rain scent. Hmmmm? "'Splain" that to me, as Bug used to say.)
Anyway, this full blown attack, this war of the nasal passages - one of the worst smells I have ever had to smell (and I grew up on a farm that raised horses, cattle, chickens AND pigs and my uncle raised sheep!).
Anyway, this full blown attack, this war of the nasal passages - one of the worst smells I have ever had to smell (and I grew up on a farm that raised horses, cattle, chickens AND pigs and my uncle raised sheep!).
Rotten potatoes!!!!!!
It hits you like a rusty nail through your sinuses, right into the very center of your brain!
And I know you are all wondering 'did the Mr. Clean Febreeze Meadow and Rain scent make your home smell like meadows and rain?'.
No stinkin' chance! {grin} It made my house smell like rotten potatoes frolicking in a meadow with rain....
I think I need to bring out the big guns... tomorrow... me, the rotten potato smell and bleach! {but mum's the word, ok. I don't want the word to get out on the street. No snitching my plan so this deviant smell knows what to expect. mmmkay?}
Why couldn't my house smell like... homemade bread or apple pie or the sweet chili chicken and sushi rice I made this evening... {to clarify it was only the meal I made today. I certainly didn't have time for the homemade bread nor the apple pie... just keepin' it real y'all. GRIN}

In which I admit how I broke my hand
I wish it were a funny story or a brave one or even just remotely cool but, alas, my hand breaking story is lame {except for the fact that it lead up to the day I met my grand-daughter}.
We started off on Feb 9 in the town near MamaJ's home; she was dilating like a mad woman and then... NOTHING! No more progression! Doctor mentioned augmentation or a possible c-section which this little hospital was not set up to do. {Well, they considered doing the c-section there but thankfully couldn't get the o.r. staff in to assist. I say 'thankfully' because the doctor then explained she had only ever seen one in college and proceeded to ask the nurse what she needed to do next. I. Don't. Think. SO!}
Load MamaJ into the ambulance and head here, to my hometown. I will not admit to which traffic violations I may or may not have committed on our (Jellybean and Bug were with me) trip home. I dropped the kids off at my dad's because by this time they had waited at a hospital for 6 hours and it would be a late night yet.
Speed walking through the hospital parking lot and BANG! I hit the ground and with every bone in my body on the way down. I lay there for a bit, seriously hoping someone saw me so they could help me up because I didn't think I was moving on my own. No one came. I decided laying on the ice wasn't fun anymore {wait! It wasn't fun to begin with! wink}. Up I got, with a few scrapes, sore bones (mostly my knees and elbows) and a little bruised pride.
Anywho, off to the maternity ward. No c-section! Oxytocin and fentanyl. Bets were placed on when baby would be born. One insisted Feb 9. 9 1/2 hours after arriving at second hospital, our dear baby was born on Feb 10! (bet lost but not by me). Bet lost about whether she was a boy or girl as well, also not by me as I had all ready bought several too-cute-to-pass-by girl outfits! {tee hee! What can I say, I am an optimist}
Lots of squeezing done to my right hand... never any increase in pain so I never gave it another thought past bone bruise. One week later, the pain was so intense in my hand I"yelled"sternly spoke to a patient and knew I needed to get it checked. She is broken, a bone in my hand; it aches when I am at work or have to do a lot of typing (this post has taken me forever to type out). It's not a big deal though. It's not excruciating pain or anything, just more of an inconvenience but heh, I got a beautiful grand-daughter out of the whole thing. I'd say I am still on the winning end, inspite of the fall!

Dear Jonathon Crawford (aka probable scam artist extraordinaire)
Thank you for your kind email informing me of some mass fortune that some un-named, deceased person you say I am related to has in the vault. Thank you for your "willingness" to share this wealth with me. Your kindness and generosity leaves me completely speechless. Oh the list I have of all I could do with this mass wealth. I am overwhelmed that "good fortune" has put me at the "centre of your life". Your 40/40/20 split of this fortune however, underwhelms me. Dude, if I am the only relative (which leaves me to wonder what happened to the rest of my family and where their emails are) of this un-named deceased person whose wealth is about to be absorbed by the government I have a proposal for you... like more like 95/5... you know, for all your hard work hunting me down and all...
My dear Jonathon, I trust that you can sense the sarcasm dripping from each and every letter typed on this page and I trust that we are able to "establish a trustful collaboration". How about you send me your direct phone numbers and fax number and you can send me some absurd amount of money to get this inheritance into myscamming hands. Please affirm your willingness to collaborate on your little scam endeavor by sending me your photo in your pretty little pumpkin orange jumpsuit.... mmmmkay? Thanks and buhbye!
Sincerely,
"Not buying into you"

Hi Xxxxxx,
Hope you are doing good?
I am Jonathan Crawford from England, a legal solicitor practicing in the field of; business disputes and litigation, Will and Estate disputes, inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975 applications. I am contacting you regarding my deceased client deposit in the sum of four million us dollars currently in storage at a deposit vault here in England. The deposit was made in the year 2005 and his unfortunate death transpired on August 8th 2007. After proper identification of his body, I immediately notified the deposit firm and launched an investigation into possible surviving family relatives to alert about the situation and receive the funds from the deposit firm. Till date, my search has proved abortive.
Sequel to the recent notice received from the deposit vault; failing to receive viable claims, they shall declare the deposit unserviceable and remit to the government reserve thus, the portfolio would be out of reach. I have contacted you in good faith as someone that I can confide in to help receive these funds, acting as a close relative of my deceased client. If this meets with your understanding, I shall prepare the necessary papers to this effect and also provide all necessary assistance till the funds are released. Be rest assured that there is no potential legal liabilities to this cliam. I have done a careful evaluation before contacting you. As a matter of principle, I am in no position to claim these funds, being the lawyer to the deceased hence; I need your assistance in this great endeavour.
Let's share this blessings together, as good fortune has placed you into the centre of relevance of my life. I hope we can be able to establish a trustful collaboration for this project. I have decided upon conclusion, we both get 40% each and 20% shall be utilised for charitable deeds. Please affirm your willingness to work with me and kindly provide your direct phone and fax numbers.
Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Jonathan Crawford

The post you don't have to read
you know, because I'm about to whine just a teeny tiny bit...
I don't want to go to work today; I would much rather stay in my bed. Ooooo it was so toasty.
You see, it's cold outside. Not as cold as it can be nor, for that matter, as cold as it has been. For some reason though, the sound of the alarm, this morning, was like bamboo shoots being shoved through my eardrums. (ok, I am surmising; I have no idea what that feels like nor do I intend to find out).
I get to venture into coldness and windchills to start my car, let it warm-up for 10-15 minutes so it is warm enough to drive. I also don't feel like contending with square tires. You think I could make that stuff up?!
How many times do you think you could call in "allergic to vertical" and still have a job to go to?
That's what I thought. Better go start that car then! Sheesh!
{grin}

Hypocrite? Why, yes I am...
Well, when it comes to this one thing it sure seems like it anyway!
I hear resonating through The Land of Blog, "What one thing?!" There are hands wringing together in anticipation for some seedy, dark reason or some "Ah huh! I knew she didn't really believe all that 'God stuff' she writes on here!"
Well, I'm gonna have to burst your bubble. Not seedy. Not dark. Not anything to do with religion or my view on God.
It has to do with hair.
Grey hair.
MY!!!!! Grey!!!!! Hair!!!!!
When my dad started getting grey hair, I told him they were pearls of wisdom, showing the world just how smart he is becoming.
I discovered grey hair on my head and, although I find it a priviledge to grow old I don't neccessarily want to display it, I... I...
Oh...
I plucked them out!
I. Am. A. Hypocrite!
Iamashamed...

Eating green sugar cubes
Yesterday I read a, now, new blogger friend's post about 25 random things about her. In one of her points she mentioned eating a pickle from off the ground and it reminded me of the green sugar cube incident of '81.
My brother was 3 years old and we had a pony named Star. Star was a round, bay Shetland pony with, obvioulsy, a white star on his forehead. Did I mention Star was round? I did? Oh, ok because he was R.O.U.N.D!
We decided that we were going to give our beautiful pony a treat and having read so many books about horses loving sugar cubes, we decided that that is what we would do. We attempted to give this silly, round pony the sugar cube. (I need to interject my own story by telling you that Star had just finished enjoying a bountiful feast of tall, juicy grass from just outside our fence.)
Star did not like the sugar cube one little bit. He rolled it around in his mouth for a bit and spit it out onto the ground. The cube was now a strange shade of green.
My brother was 3.
(I know I said that all ready but can anyone guess where this is leading to? Anyone?)
He picked that sugar cube up off the ground, in all its greeniness (You weren't there! This word totally is a legit word in this story {grin}) and popped that sucker right in his little mouth and ate it!
I guess that's one way to get kids to eat their vegetables, huh?

He picked that sugar cube up off the ground, in all its greeniness (You weren't there! This word totally is a legit word in this story {grin}) and popped that sucker right in his little mouth and ate it!
I guess that's one way to get kids to eat their vegetables, huh?

Thank you...?
Today I had a moment of weakness....I almost caved in to a McD's craving....
Anyway, I was having a temporary pity party. Yes, people those do happen in this house and I can freely admit to my part in them (sometimes it takes me longer to admit I am pouting but I do admit it {grin}). I was saying things like 'it doesn't seem to matter what I do, once I get to this weight I can't lose anything more' and things like that. I was speaking doubt & disbelief.
My sweet, dear Bug piped up from his spot at the kitchen table, "Mama, you are NOT fat. You are just a little out of weight, that's all."
He really has been coming to my "rescue" lately. Take for example on the way home from our extended vacation last week, B.D. & I were talking and he said, "So, what do you think, chick." Bug let his disgust at that comment be known from the back seat, scolding his daddy, "That's not some chick! That's my mommy!"
Have I told you guys lately that he is seriously my favorite seven year old? Like, I am not even kidding! {grin}

It's just a little thing but...
it's really beginning to irritate me that I can NOT type the word "we" without it initially looking like this "WE", which makes it look like I am yelling or emphasizing "we" at y'all. I am certain that 9 times out of 10 I am back-spacing to correct that and it is driving. me. nuts!
End rant. :D

Early to bed, early to rise, right?
Right! The four of us are heading to bed, well all but me all ready have, and it is 9:11 PM. Some might think we are recouping from a traumatic yesterday but no, we are preparing for an early rising. Yes, at 3:00 AM we will be hauling our butts out of bed, settling them in our car and heading to spend a week and a half Christmas vacation - some with our oldest son and some with just the four of us swimming, playing, eating, watersliding, laughing, etc.
Anywho, if I am spuratic with posts know that I am laughing, loving and enjoying my family. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Caution: Slippery When Wet
and I am totally not making reference to my teen years when I was struck and deeply fascinated by Jon Bon Jovi...
Bug is sick but B.D. is in a land far, far away called "Not-even-in-cell-coverage" for this week. This means that mama, that would be me, had to miss another day of work (which, thankfully, my wonderful boss is cool with) anywhoodles, I got the kiddos dressed. Correction: Jellybean got ready & dressed for school while I conviced Bug that he had to get pants on so we could take his sister to school - he came down in pajama pants {sigh}. (Battle choosing commenced at this point and he left the house in his pajamas - not making a big deal out of a not-so-big of a deal)
Bug & I arrive back home; I stick my key in the lock to open the door and KABLOOEY! {Not making that up; that is TOTALLY the noise I heard; it may or may not have been followed immediately by a crash and a sploosh but it all happened so fast...} Chaos and confusion quickly ensued. We were struck by an explosion of junk as our closet shelf took that moment to collapse on itself with all of its contents tumbling down. This may not have been that big of a deal (or that big of a clean up) had my honey not decided that that needed to be the spot for his deep fryer FULL of oil (you know, instead of it going downstairs on the shelf with the rest of the odd-time a year usage items). I am covered in oil, my back entrance is covered in oil, shoes and boots are saturated in it and I have now successfully tracked it into every level of my home.
I am heading now to WalMart to get some more papertowels to try and absorb it some more and get rid of the extreme slipperiness of my floor. {heh, who knew that walking to the kitchen sink for a drink of water was an extreme sport?}
Pictures will NOT ensue. I am not taking my camera anywhere near that oily mess for fear it will consume my camera as much as it has consumed my back entrance. I trust your active imaginations to envision the carnage in appropriate and worthy measures. You are welcome for the imagery and the giggles. I do what I can to give you, my bloggy-world peeps a laugh, a smile, a chuckle... even a guffaw {whatever THAT is!}

Well, color me stupid!
Altenately titled: A new shade of red.
So there I sat this evening in my car, my two beautiful children sitting in the backseat, at a 4-way stop. And there I continued to sit as if waiting for some invisible light to turn green... and waited...
...and waited...
....and waited...
for an undetermined length of time. I am thinking about 5-10 minutes.
You know, until someone pulled up behind me and I became painfully aware that I had just sat at a 4-way stop for quite some time.
At least I wasn't sleeping at a red light though... like the time I had worked a double 12-hour shift (a few years ago). The light turned red; I stopped the car and my blinks got longer and longer until they stopped... {sheepish, guilt-ridden grin} I really don't know how long I stay stopped at the light... Thankfully, it was very early in the morning so there was no traffic.

Twisted Tales
So Rush fell down a flight of stairs after missing a couple at the very top. She has twisted her ankle and is in need of using crutches.
She decided that instead of telling the embarrassing story of how it actually happen, she would twist her twisted ankle tale to make it a fair bit more intresting albeit a downright fib. {grin}
She is, jokingly, telling people that she hurt it while skydiving and her parachute failed to open. "I'm lucky to be alive..."
What a kid!
Same day, she slammed her hand in a glove box. Yeppers, she is cute. Graceful? Hardly!

When silliness takes adults over
And when I say "adults" I use the term loosely because I am meaning my brother and me. We can get pretty goofy when we are together or, as is the case here, caught up in an impromptu rhyming game via text messaging...
It started off with my brother simply texting me saying "Then there were two"
I asked him, "Who bought the boys?"
S: They got ice cream
Me: Was it from a goat?
S:They had to cross with a boat.
Me: But did it float?
S: Only when they crossed the moat.
Me: (for some reason this text is lost and I can't remember what it said)
S: When they got across they sure did gloat.
Me: Until one of them got a frog in his throat.
S: He could get a doctor note
Me: But the doctors office was too remote
S: So they went to see a coyote.
Me: And he was realy cutthroat
S: The old indian told them to chew peyote
Me:And for that he took their last banknote
S: He fed his horse but only one oat
Me: So the horse submitted an idea to "Murder She Wrote"
S: For their father they will dote
Me: But what did their father's lifestyle promote?
S: Only after the vote
Me: How could his business stay afloat
S: You will lose he said and I quote
Me: There was fear one would come to demote
S: It's all coming down to the revote
Me: But did he wear a petticoat
(this is where I began to get desperate and could not think of anymore words...)
S: You can't keep throwing junk in front of words you already said. Fishing boat.
Me: It's a totally new word ;P are you going to revolt?
S: Doesn't rhyme. You lose.
(and this is where I began to grovel and just make stuff up)
Me: Does so... just say the 'l' really fast...
Anyway, I conceded defeat and that he had won fair and square - you know given the fact that I just kept creating "compound words" ending in coat...
We will do this quite often. Not this particular game but just out of the blue, and without there being an actual decision to do so, just begin playing some random game through texting.
Anyone else find themselves doing this? Anyone... Marco...? {fade to crickets chirping...}
